Please join us in a Flash Mob gathering at the Trans Canada Trail Pavillion dressed in your favourite biking apparel, with your mode of personal transportation in hand. A short group discussion will take place on this particular geocaching mode of transportation. Any stories of conquests and failures to enlighten and inform fellow cachers will be appreciated. The official log book will be present here for your signing. A photo of the Mob will be taken at 6:30pm.
After the Event, cachers are invited to stay around and participate in exploration of the Cobequid Trail. For more information, visit www.maritimemega.com.
After the event, it is will possible to bike, walk or jog along the well maintained Cobequid Trail in our host town of Truro, Nova Scotia. A great way to spend a hopefully sunny evening enjoying and exploring parts of this trail system. Also a great chance to continue the casually meet and greet fellow caches along the10 km trail section to Old Barns at the Shore Road. Bring Travel Bugs and more stories to share with your fellow cachers along the way. Please take proper cautions if you decide to do any activities after the event along this trail. This is a family trail, so please take that into consideration, and respect others on the trail, and obey all trail rules.
A Brief History of The Cobequid Trail – it is a 17-km network of walking and cycling trails in central Colchester County, part of the Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley region. Travel along a former railway, through Acadian dykelands and farmland, through forests and along brooks, and beside the tidal Salmon River from Cobequid Bay to its tributaries. Explore the area’s nature and wildlife (including bird watching) while walking, hiking, cycling along the trail. Please note that all sections are non-motorized. The section between Truro and Old Barns is on the former Dominion Atlantic Railway, a railway built in 1898 and operated until 1982. This section of the D.A.R. was known as the Midland Line, an important link between Truro and Windsor. The grade along this section of the trail is almost flat, with very few slight inclines. There is opportunity to see the tidal bore (you might hear it before you see it!) and, in season, migrating shorebirds. Watch for bald eagles and osprey (Nova Scotia’s provincial bird) along the river too. The view across the river is of the farmland of Fort Belcher.
Special note from MinerP:
With a bit of a social conscience in mind, it would be most generous, if participants could consider a contributtion of any unwanted, unused and often forgotten in the back of drawers and car glove compartments, the second currency of Canada. These colourful paper bills can help many charitable organizations purchase supplies. Ask your friends, neighbours and relatives, every bit will help someone. This is not a requirement in any way for this outing. Any donation can be left during the logbook signing or photo shoot. Final amount and charity will be noted on this cache page at a later date. Thanks.
It is presently under consideration to have a very special, Cobequid Trail Biking Pathtag produced for those bikers who achieve the 20 km ride, as well for those whom make a Funny Money contribution. Production will be very limited, therefor only one pathtag per cacher/team.
